  • How Do I Apply for a Passport?

Requirements for applying for a Passport

  • Completed Application Form (PDF, 203 KB)
  • Passport Application Fees – to be paid at the Treasury Department (a birth certificate and a marriage certificate (if the female applicant is married) must be presented to the Cashier at the Treasury Department before fees are paid):
    • Children under 16 years of age: EC$75.00
    • Adults (16 years older): EC$150.00
    • Lost/Stolen passports: EC $400.00
  • Treasury receipt as proof of payment of application fee.
  • Two recent passport sized photos (45mm x 38mm or 1 3/4 inches by 1 1/2 inches). Passport photos must adhere to the following standards:
    • Image must be between 3mm and 5mm from top edge and chin must be between 10mm and 12mm from the bottom edge of photograph and must include the shoulder;
    • Photo should neither be under exposed or over exposed;
    • Background colours: white, light grey, light blue, light brown, beige;
    • There must be contrast between image and background (e.g. no white shirt on white background or light grey shirt on light grey background, etc.);
    • No shirts with bold prints; no military shirts or camouflage;
    • No sleeveless/tank tops;
    • Chest area must be covered;
    • No shades or dark sunglasses;
    • No head coverings except in the case of Muslims;
    • Facial expression must be neutral (person may smile but mouth must not be open);
  • Original and copy of birth certificate.
  • For first time applicants, an interview with the Inspector, Immigration, is required. Interviews are also held at Dominica Consulate offices.
  • Persons collecting passports on behalf of an applicant must have a written notarized order (done in the presence of a Notary Public) from the applicant. This applies even if the person brought in the application form on behalf of the applicant.
  • Passports which have been lost, stolen or damaged must be reported to the Immigration Department in Roseau, the nearest Police Station or the Dominica Consulate.
  • The normal processing time for passports is two (2) weeks. In an emergency, for example, in the case of illness, passports can be processed almost immediately, or within two to three working days.
  • Stamps are no longer required for passport applications.

An Emergency Passport is issued to persons due to emergencies such as death in the family or for medical treatment.

  • EC $20.00 stamps*
  • One recent passport sized photograph
  • Previous Passport or Birth Certificate

Requirements for obtaining a Travel Permit / Emergency Permit

  • EC $10.00 stamps*
  • One passport sized photograph
  • Birth Certificate
  • Previous passport

* Stamps are available for purchase at the General Post Office in Roseau and at its branches.

A Travel Permit is issued immediately upon proof that there is some form of emergency, for example if one’s Passport has expired or one’s Passport is in another country awaiting a visa.

How Do I Apply for a Collective Passport?

Requirements for obtaining Collective Passport

Collective Passports are issued to persons travelling as a group, for example, for sports meets, youth excursions, etc. There is no fee for Collective Passports. There is a limit of twenty (20) persons per Collective Passport.

  • The leader and deputy leader must have a passport. The surname, Christian names and passport number of the leader and deputy leader must be provided.
  • The leader of the group must provide a passport-sized photograph.
  • Completed Application Form – The Application Form is available from the Passport and Immigration Department.
  • List of names and particulars of members of group:

–          Surname

–          Christian names

–          Place of birth

–          Date of birth

–          Place of residence

How Do I Apply for a Seaman’s Passport?

Requirements for obtaining a Seaman’s Passport

A Seaman’s Passport is issued to persons working on boats. It is not for travel.

  • Letter from captain/agent indicating that the person is employed with/will be employed with the boat
  • EC $30.00 stamps*
  • Two recent passport photos
  • Original and copy of birth certificate or previous passport
  • Names of two referees who are of high standing in community
  • Application Form – available at the Passport and Immigration Department for EC $1.00 stamp*

  • How Do I Apply for a Visitor’s Visa?

Requirements for applying for a Commonwealth of Dominica Visa

  • Completed Visa Application Form(PDF, 70.41 KB)
  • Valid Passport and two passport sized photographs
  • Letter of Invitation
  • Bank statement of applicant or sponsor
  • Employment letter (if employed) or proof of self-employment.
  • Application fee (Bank Draft of EC$200.00) made payable to the Accountant General
  • All information in Foreign Languages should be translated into English by a certified translator, stamped and notarized appropriately.
  • All documents/copies should be notarized.

**Effective May 25, 2009, a Police Record and Medical Report (including HIV/AIDS test) are no longer required for applying for a Visa.

  • How Do I Apply for an Extension of Stay?

Requirements for obtaining an Extension of Stay

Applications for Extension of Stay must be submitted before the expiration of time given at the Port of Entry.

  • Application/interview with Inspector-in-Charge of Immigration in person
  • Valid Passport
  • Valid return ticket
  • Sufficient funds to sustain oneself for length of time intended to stay
  • A local address
  • Fees – to be paid at the Treasury Department after interview with Inspector-in-charge, Immigration:

–          CARICOM Nationals:

  • EC $25.00 for less than one month
  • EC $50.00 for one to three months

–          Non-CARICOM Nationals:

  • EC $50.00 for less than one month
  • EC $100.00 for one to three months
  • Treasury receipt as proof of payment of application fee

A Certificate of Identity is a temporary travel document given to non-Dominicans who have encountered problems viz a viz lost / stolen passports.
